Evangelical Middle East Commission (EMOK)
The Evangelical Middle East Commission (EMOK) unites churches, relief organizations and church related institutions involved in the Middle East.
The EMOK promotes the cooperation and exchange of its members among each other as well as with Christians, churches and partners in the Middle East the members are connected with. It also supports the cooperation and exchange with communities and institutions of the EKD in this region. Its counterpart in the Middle East are the Middle East Council of Churches (MECC) and the Fellowship of Middle East Evangelical Churches (FMEEC).
An essential aim of the EMOK is the survival and the growth of churches in the Middle East. In particular, it promotes the cooperation concerning the Christian-Jewish and Christian-Islamic dialogue in its own context and in the Middle East. It pursues the political and social development in this region.
The EMOK advises the Council of EKD, the church leadership of VELKD, the executive committee of UEK and the board of EMW and also their regional churches, member churches and institutions.
It exchanges information and experience with cooperative relationships and about projects in the Middle East. At this, it exerts itself for mutual coordination, agreement and cooperation.
The EMOK serves to accompany and advise members’ programs and projects.
Every three years, secretaryship of the EMOK alternates between the EKD and the Organization of Evangelical Churches and Missions in Germany (EMW).
